Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY HAMATA (BLHANIK) 1910 - 2010 A saddened family announces the passing of Mary Hamata on November 10, 2010, at the age of 100. Mary Blahnik was born July 16, 1910 in the area of Grande Pointe, Manitoba. The daughter of Czechoslovakian immigrants, Mary and her siblings learned the value of hard work living on the farm. For many years before a son came along, Mary and her three sisters worked as hard as any man could. She often said how she'd never want to live her life over again, but those years made her the strong, resourceful woman her family adored. In 1935 Mary married the love of her live, Joseph Hamata, and they shared more than 60 happy years together. Their little house in Elmwood was always full of family and friends, a place where everyone was welcome and, for the grandchildren, it was a second home. Mary had two great loves, and she nurtured them both. Her family was her life, and she relished every moment spent with her husband; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her extended family. Her other great love was her garden, which she tended to faithfully every year, well into her 90s. In summer her yard was a showpiece of her green thumb, and every fall, family and friends were the grateful recipients of her ample harvest. In her mid 90s, Mary left her beloved home and moved into Donwood Manor, where her easy going nature and ready smile made her a favourite among the staff there. It was at Donwood that family and friends gathered for Mary's 100th birthday this past July, to celebrate a life well-lived. Mary sadly outlived all her siblings, and was also predeceased by her son Gerry Hamata, her husband Joe Hamata and her son-in-law Geo Hunt. Memories of Mary will be treasured by her daughter Pat; her grandchildren, Terry, Tom, Larry, Rick, Joel, Martin, Laura, David and their families; her former daughter-in-law Margaret; her family and friends from Grande Pointe; and everyone who knew her. Funeral service will be held Monday, November 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Interment and reception will follow. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
