ARCHIBALD MAXWELL HAY, CD It is with deep regret that we announce the death on November 10, 2010 of Archibald Maxwell Hay, beloved husband of Patricia (Penny) Hay. In addition to his wife, Archie is survived by his children Cheryhl (Jim), Rick (Dale), Cyndi (Mitch), Brenda (Cathy) and Stuart, as well as six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Born on February 27, 1920, he attended schools in Winnipeg, the University of Manitoba and United College (now the University of Winnipeg). Following completion of his university studies in 1941 he joined the army and served in Britain and Northwest Europe. Upon his return to Canada in early 1946 he joined the Canadian Militia, retiring in 1959 with the rank of Major. He subsequently joined the Royal Canadian Legion, was president of Valour Road Memorial Branch in 1983, later a member of Winnipeg Beach Branch, and was a member of St. James Branch at the time of his death. He was also a life member of the Royal Military Institute of Manitoba. His entire working career, from 1946 to 1980, was spent with Great-West Life. In 1952 he married the former Patricia Williams, known to some by her wartime nickname of Penny . Together he and Pat had a remarkable lifetime of love and fellowship. They especially enjoyed living in their retirement home in Ponemah on the shore of Lake Winnipeg, where they resided from 1982 to 1999. As a Freemason, he served as Master of his Lodge, as a presiding Officer in Scottish Rite, President of the Pipes and Drums in Khartum Temple, and was a member of the Royal Order of Scotland. In 1982 he was made an Honorary Inspector General 33° in Scottish Rite, and in 2006 a Fellow of the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation. He was also a charter member of the Interlake Shrine Club. Cremation has taken place, but a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster United Church, corner of Westminster and Maryland in Winnipeg. Members of St. James Legion, Millennium Lodge, Khartum Pipes and Drums, and the Royal Order of Scotland are invited to be Honorary Pallbearers, with Masonic regalia to be worn. Service will terminate at the church with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation would be greatly appreciated. The Foundation is a large supporter of research into Alzheimer's disease, from which Pat has been suffering for many years. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the staff of 3E Riverview Centre for the compassionate care of their father. NEIL BARDAL INC. FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
