Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN KOROL On November 6, 2010 the Lord called for John Korol of Winnipeg to be reunited with his wife Ann, son Rudy, son-in-law Joseph (Joe) Blanchard, parents and siblings. He is survived by his daughter Florence, granddaughters Michelle and Robyn, grandson Matthew, great-grandson Tyler, great-granddaughter Hayley, brother-in-law John Dinko, sister-in-law Rose Dinko and his many nieces and nephews. John, or as he was more commonly known to his family, Gigi, was born on the farm in Horod, Manitoba on August 30, 1915. He married Ann in 1938, and they continued to live on the farm until moving to Elphinstone. In 1955 Gigi moved his family to Winnipeg and was employed as a welder with Motorcoach, until his retirement in 1980. Above all else, Gigi was a family man. His family was the most important thing in his life. After retirement Gigi especially loved spending time with his family and friends at their trailer at Dorothy Lake in the Whiteshell. Gigi was an outdoors man. He had a passion for fishing and he was well known for his delicious smoked fish. He also enjoyed hunting and working in the garden. Anyone who knew Gigi knew he was a man that could be counted on. He was very handy at all stages of his life, and he took great joy in helping people in any way possible. Not only was Gigi a family man, but he was also devoted to God. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, where he belonged to the Men's Club - Bingo, Knights of Columbus, and the Seniors Club. The family would like to thank Fathers Bohdan Lukie, Frank Szadiak, and Yuriy Banga for their spiritual guidance; they provided great comfort during their many visits to Gigi while at Seven Oaks Hospital and at Maples Personal Care Home. The family would also like to thank his nephew Rudy Macsymach for all his help and commitment to Gigi. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the nursing and physio staff of 4U8 at Seven Oaks Hospital for the excellent care they provided. The same can also be said of nursing staff 2E at the Maples Personal Care Home, especially Carmie, who was exceptional with Gigi during his time there. One final thanks to all the family, friends and church members who visited Gigi while he was in hospital and at Maples Personal Care Home. Fr. Frank Szadiak of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church will be officiating prayers and the Divine Liturgy. Prayers are at St. Joseph's, 250 Jefferson Avenue on Sunday, November 14 at 6:00 p.m. The Divine Liturgy will take place at St. Joseph's, 250 Jefferson Avenue, on November 15 at 10:00 a.m. Crossbearer will be Jean Derhak. Pallbearers will include: Darrell Dinko, Dennis Dinko, Michelle Blanchard, Matthew Blanchard, Natasha Macsymach, and Peter Diakiw. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph's Stained Glass Fund or to a charity of your choice.
