Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELENE HAMM 1926 - 2010 Helene Hamm (née Loewen), beloved wife of Henry Hamm, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2010, with her husband by her side. She was born February 27, 1926 in the village of Schoenau, Sagradowka, South Ukraine, the daughter of Heinrich Loewen and Helene Wolf (née Voth). During the war she was sent to Berlin by the German occupation authorities. There she worked in a machine factory. After the war she was reunited with her family in Germany but later deported, along with rest of her family, to Russia, to the city of Novosibirsk, where she worked in a machine factory. In 1954 she married Henry Hamm, who had also been deported to North Siberia after the war. In 1965 they both immigrated to Canada to be reunited with Henry's parents, after 21 years of separation. In 1967 both Helene and Henry became members of First Mennonite Church, where Helene was active in a women's circle for many years, as a member and volunteer. She was a loving, cheerful and life-affirming person who demonstrated great courage and strength in the face of adversity. In 1997 she developed severe arthritis, which greatly limited her mobility. Earlier this year she became seriously ill, undergoing colon surgery and suffering two strokes. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface and Concordia Hospitals for their kind and compassionate care. Helene was predeceased by her parents, two sisters and one brother. She is survived by her beloved husband, two sisters and their families in Germany and relatives in Russia. The funeral will be held at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue, November 22, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. Rest in peace, dear Helene. After 56 years of marriage, I am going to miss you very much. Your grieving husband, Henry Hamm. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. - 338-0331 Send expressions of sympathy at www.klassenfuneralhome.com
