JOSEPH HALPER October 15, 1921 - October 31, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joseph Halper, born in Shepatovka, Russia on October 15, 1921 and dying in Winnipeg on October 31, 2010. Joe moved with his parents and sister to Boston when he was a youngster and spent his formative years in the Boston area. In the Second World War Joe enlisted in the United States Navy and fought in the Pacific theatre. Following the war, Joe moved to Winnipeg and married his loving wife of sixty-four years, Lily. Together they established their home and family life in Winnipeg, raising their twin boys, Stewart and Stephen. Joe was a superb salesman and established his career in the clothing business in Winnipeg. He was an excellent bridge player achieving a Life Master status, an avid golfer spending many pleasurable days at the Glendale Golf and Country Club, as well as a curler and tennis player. Above all, he was a man who loved his family and spent as much time with them as possible. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre for the time, attention, and excellent care he was given. He is missed by his loving wife Lily, his sister Evy, his sons Stewart (Sheila) and Stephen (Janet), his grandchildren Lisah, Daniel, and Emily, and his nieces and nephews. Donations can be made in his honour to the Alzheimer's society of Canada, the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, or the charity of your choice. The burial occurred on November 3, 2010 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue Cemetery.
