FLORA JEAN PEAKE (MILLER) Jean Peake, aged 85 years, beloved wife of the late Thomas Richard Peake, passed away peacefully at Misericordia Health Centre on Sunday, November 14, 2010. Jean was predeceased by her father, Robert Colborne Miller, mother Minnie Miller and brother-in-law Leslie Aldridge. Jean will be forever missed by her children, Thomas Jr. (Julie), Chris (Shannon), Ian (Peggy); and grandchildren, Brian, Nicole, Michelle, Lauren, Paige and Madison: her sisters, Dorothy from Ottawa and Margaret from St. Catharines, many nieces and nephews, their families, and by many close friends. Born January 19, 1925 in Montreal, Quebec, Jean was the second of three children. Jean spent her early years living in Noranda, Quebec. In 1943 Jean moved to Montreal to commence training as a registered nurse at the Montreal General Hospital. After graduating in 1946, Jean worked for Building Products as the plant nurse where she met her husband Tom. In 1955 Jean left Building Products to support Tom in pursuing his career with Shell Canada and to raise her family. Jean created a warm home and cultivated many friends as they moved to Toronto, New York, Montreal and finally Winnipeg. Once her three boys were in high school, Jean entered the nursing field once again on a contract basis with various medical organizations. Jean was a person of many interests and talents. Skilled at needlework and crafts of all kinds, Jean enjoyed spending time creating handmade treasures and especially her weekly meetings with her friends in the Crewel Club. She was a fun loving person who had a knack for entertaining and making people feel welcome. Jean was a much loved grandmother who made all her grandchildren feel special. She was a warm compassionate person who truly loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and close friends. Jean found much solace and pleasure retreating to the family cottage at Lake of the Woods that she and Tom spent so many happy years creating. She enjoyed fishing with our dad, visiting with her many lake neighbours, family visits and enjoying the peaceful outdoor life. During Jean's retirement years, she spent each winter at the family home in Florida with her husband Tom, where she was very active in the Canada Club, Senior's Centre and with a wide circle of friends. In respecting Jean's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held, however a private family service will take place. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at Misericordia Health Centre for the outstanding and compassionate care they provided to Jean during her stay.
