NAOMI RUTH PALANSKY (ROSENBERG) September 2, 1964 November 9, 2010 With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Naomi Palansky (nee Rosenberg) on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, after a 31 month battle with cancer. Naomi will be sorely missed by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her loving dad Abie, and maternal grandparents Norma and Alec Rittberg. Naomi leaves her family with broken hearts and will be sadly missed by her husband Bruce, children Noah and Lexi, mother Pearl Globerman, sisters Brenda (Frank) Dahle, Cara and Lainie, Michelle (Drew) Moyer, Leigh and Danika, and Cindy (Rob) Yusim, Marlee, Lauren, and Adam. She will also be missed by her mother-in-law Phyllis Palansky, father-in-law Syd Palansky (Sandy Hurwitz), Baba Jean, sisters-in-law Sandi Green (Glenn Hutchinson), Jaime and Morgan, Sharna (Ken) Baron, Zack, Adam, and Amy, and Shelley (Martin) Simms, Danielle and Micaela. Naomi held a special place in the hearts of her dear friends Jakee Werbuk, Reesa Tennenhouse, and Becky Jacobs. Naomi was born on September 2, 1964, the youngest of four daughters to Pearl and Abie Rosenberg. She was truly a gift, was adored by her three older sisters, and completed the family. Naomi loved going fishing with her dad and learning family recipes and keeping Jewish traditions she learned from her Mom. Naomi attended Talmud Torah Elementary School and graduated from Joseph Wolinsky Collegiate with honours. She attended the University of Manitoba where she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts Degree, followed by a degree in Occupational Therapy. She worked at the St. Boniface Hospital in Adolescent Psychiatry, the Rehab Centre for Children, and the Seven Oaks School Division at her untimely passing. Naomi was passionate about her work and was respected by the other professionals who worked with her. Naomi loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was spunky, outgoing, reliable, and always gave one hundred and ten percent. She always put the needs of others before her own and her heart was in all she did. Naomi met Bruce at a Valentine's Day Party and it was love at first sight. They married on June 20, 1993 and spent seventeen wonderful years together, loving each other and raising their children, Noah and Lexi. Naomi's greatest love was being a mom and she was the best. She was so proud of Noah and Lexi, especially their hockey, ringette and accomplishments at school. Naomi was involved in every aspect of their lives. She coached soccer for Lexi's team, despite having never played soccer. Nothing was too hard or too much work for her. She loved making homemade costumes, playing in the snow with her kids, gardening, and baking. Naomi also loved playing board games with her children, watching hockey with her family, racing anyone in Sudoku, playing Mahjong with her weekly group, and being part of an adult ringette team. She loved family trips, especially Maui, and visiting theme parks with her family. Naomi loved curling up with her dog Crosby, who brought her comfort and laughter when she needed it most; named in honour of her favourite hockey player. Naomi had a special relationship with each one of her sisters. There was nothing she wouldn't do for them. The sisters would often reminisce about childhood memories such as family times at Clear Lake, Detroit Lakes, and Winnipeg Beach. One of Naomi's dreams was fulfilled when she encouraged her sisters to join her in a B'not Mitzvah, which was held two and a half weeks prior to her passing. She proudly read from the Torah and chanted the Haftorah, and especially beamed when Lexi took her turn at reading from the Torah. Naomi lived life to the fullest, even after her cancer diagnosis, in April, 2008. In spite of the challenge her diagnosis presented, she never lost her will and determination, and managed to find a rainbow in every day. She didn't just exist for 31 months; she played her cards like a true hero. Naomi was especially honoured when her family joined her fight in the Challenge for Life Walk which raises dollars and awareness for Cancercare Manitoba. She was particularly proud of Noah, who took on this challenge and set a lifetime goal of raising $1,000,000; to date he has raised $125,000. The funeral was held on November 10, 2010 at Congregation Etz Chayim Synagogue, officiated by Rabbi Lander and Cantor Tracy Kasner Greaves. Pallbearers were Frank Dahle, Rob Yusim, Drew Moyer, Syd Palansky, Sid Dashefsky, and Ken Baron. Honorary pallbearers were Jakee Werbuk, Garth Nemy, Joey Klapman, Sandi Green, Jeff Hollins, and Reesa Tennenhouse. The family wishes to thank the doctors at Cancercare, especially Dr. Czaykowski, Dr. Chowdhury and their nurses Linda Davidson and Denise Klassen for their medical expertise and compassion. A special thank you goes to Dr. Dashefsky for his ongoing support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancercare, Manitoba Challenge for Life 2011 under Lexi or Noah Palansky's Kids Count Team. Love you to the moon and back
