SUSAN HEATHER NISBET October 3, 1970 November 17, 2010 Susan lived life to the fullest. Paralysis caused by a degenerative neuro-muscular disorder could not stop Susan from achieving and over-achieving. Susan was born in Churchill, Manitoba to David Moyes Allan Nisbet and Shirley Louise Nisbet (nee Reid). Her early years were spent in Churchill, Portage la Prairie, Scotland and Winnipeg. At the age of 12, Susan's family moved back to Portage la Prairie, where Susan lived until 1995. Susan was very proud of her talented, compassionate children, Christianna (Tia) Forsman and Riley Fast. Susan married Kent Fast on August 20, 1995. In 1997 they moved to La Salle, Manitoba to raise their young family. Susan loved the sense of community in La Salle and made some very close and wonderful friends within the community. Susan had a brilliant mind, razor sharp wit and a kind and generous spirit. In November of 2007 Susan first noticed symptoms of what was eventually diagnosed as multi-focal motor neuropathy with conductive blocking . By October of 2008 Susan was confined to a wheelchair and by December of that year was no longer able to breathe on her own. Despite these new challenges, Susan went back to University in the Spring of 2009 and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) in October 2009, having maintained an A average throughout her University years. Susan began her career as an amateur comedian in April 2009. The highlight of her career in comedy was her appearance at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival in April of this year. Susan is survived by her husband, Kent Fast, children, Christianna Forsman and Riley Fast, mother, Shirley Nisbet, her sister Sandra van Niekerk (Jacques), as well as two uncles, an aunt, mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a great-nephew. She was predeceased by her father, David Nisbet, and by her father-in-law, John Fast. Susan cherished Sandra's children, two year old Jaxon and Alexandria, who was born just two days before Susan's passing. The family would like to thank all the wonderful friends, neighbours and family who have helped us in so many ways, particularly in the last two years. We would also like to thank Dr. Evans, who was willing to make house calls, answered her phone in the middle of the night and had all the time in the world for Susan. In lieu of flowers, please help us support Susan's chosen causes by donating in her memory to one or both of the following: (1) HYTES (Helping Youth Through Educational Scholarships) 4676 Quentin Street SW, Calgary, Alberta T2T 6E1 www.hytes.org (2) University of Manitoba Great Hall Theatre Fund, Department of Development, 179 Extended Education Complex, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 2N2. A public memorial service is being planned.
