DONALD ZAPORZAN July 24, 1930 - November 17, 2010 It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Don, on November 17, 2010, at the Concordia Hospital. Don is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eileen, son Tim and granddaughter Natalie, Son Rick, his wife Louise and grandchildren Paul, Laura-Anne; Sister Esther Sabanski of SK., many nieces and nephews, Auntie Edna (Emerson) and cousins. Don was predeceased by his parents Mary and Sam Zaporzan and two brothers Melton and Bill. Don was born in Tolstoi, MB in 1930 on a farm. He attended Overstone School from grades I to VIII, and took correspondence at Bradly School for grades IX and X. He also attended school in Teulon and Vita. Don taught school (Permit) at Burns School ( I IX ), north of Vassar,MB. Ill health slowed him down, but he eventually attended Normal School (Teacher's College) (1953-54). Everyone left with one license, but Dad left with two, a teacher's license and a marriage license. It was there that he met the love and partner of his life, Eileen Thompson from Ochre River,MB. Together they taught in the Springfield Municipality for six years, making their home in Transcona with their two young sons, Tim and Rick, where they remained. Dad taught in the East Kildonan area until his ill health forced him to retire. He then went into sales and management with the World Book Encyclopedia, where he received many awards and plaques for his excellent work. Even though his health was poor Dad never quit, eventually setting up a Driving School. Family always came first for Dad and in 1988 he retired, as he wanted to enjoy his grandchildren in Kenora and Ottawa. Dad thoroughly enjoyed his time with his family, hunting and fishing. His leisure time was spent at the acre, tending his garden and wood lot. The family would like to thank Dr. Lieu, Dr. Cooke, the staff and volunteers at CancerCare for the wonderful care they gave Dad; also family doctor Kevin Grace, Dr. Harris, the oncology nurses and volunteers at the Concordia Hospital; and to the paramedics and staff at the Concordia Hospital during Dad's final hours. Funeral service to be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Transcona with Pastor Harold Borchardt officiating. Interment to follow at the Transcona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish donations may be made in Don's memory, to CancerCare Manitoba or to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Transcona. He fought the good fight
