LOIS MUNGHAM (MCTAVISH)
Born: Dec 18, 1926
Date of Passing: Nov 18, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOIS MUNGHAM (nee MCTAVISH) Born December 18, 1926 - November 18, 2010 Our loving mother passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre in the early afternoon on November 18th, 2010, with members of the family with her to comfort her. She leaves to mourn her husband of 63 years, Harry, her daughter Lynne (Ralph) Booker, son Barry (Lexie) Mungham, grandson Brent (Kathy Seidlitz) Booker, granddaughter Lisa (Mark) Makaruk, granddaughter Andrea (Richard) Granger, great-granddaughter (a highlight of her life) Madisyn Makaruk, and more recently a great-grandson Noah Granger, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Mother was born on the family farm in Cardale, Manitoba, and was predeceased by her parents, sisters, Kathleen Campbell and Clara McTavish, and brother, Peter McTavish. In her early years, Mom used to ride her horse to a country school in Marney, Manitoba. My, how times have changed. This started her on the road to a long teaching career. Lois began her teaching career at the young age of 17. She met Dad while attending normal school in Winnipeg. They married in 1947, and she worked at the Free Press until we were of school age, and then continued to teach at Victory School, finishing her career at Ralph Maybank School in Fort Garry. Mom loved children and had the patience of a Saint, having taught Grade 1 for over 35 years. She would not have had it any other way. At the end of each year, she would remark how rewarding it was to see how her students had progressed. She was a kind and gentle person, garnering friends wherever she went. Our many thanks to all Home Care workers who provided tremendous care to her these last several years. She would have been pleased to know that in lieu of flowers, donations would be made in support of the Heart and Stroke, or Children's Wish Foundations. Memorial service with reception to follow: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Wednesday November 24, 2010, at 2:00 p.m.

I believe this was my grade 1 teacher in 1959/60. She was a very kind, caring teacher and I never forgot her. She was my favorite teacher at Victory School! - Posted by: Pat Pegus (Former grade 1 student of Mrs. Mungham ) on: Oct 10, 2013
