Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMONICA DUDUK 1912 - 2010 Peacefully in her sleep, Monica passed away on November 18, 2010 at the age of 98 years. She is survived by her two daughters Orysia (Wasyl), Margaret (Sandor); her grandchildren Lubomyr, Ewhen, Markian, Monica (Michael), Julian, Raphael and great-granddaughter Ilyana. Monica was born January 15, 1912 in Bilcze Zlote, Ternopil, Ukraine. She was the middle of three daughters born to Maria and Jacob Maruschtschak. Monica started as a retail manager and while working in the general store, she met a tailor, her future husband Walter. They were married in 1934. Shortly thereafter, the Second World War began. The newlywed's blossoming marriage was paused, as Walter was captured as a P.O.W. However they were reunited and blessed with their first daughter, Orysia, who stayed in Ukraine due to uncertainty caused by the war. After the Second World War, Walter and Monica immigrated to Canada in 1947 and made the north end of Winnipeg their permanent home. They were graced with their second daughter, Margaret and the family was reunited in 1961 with Orysia's arrival to Canada. The two, Walter and Monica, shared a talent for crafting fashion, and Monica went on to work as a seamstress. While being a devoted wife and mother, she also carved out a career for herself as a civil servant. Monica was an honorary parish council member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral and belonged to the Ukrainian Catholic Womens' League of Canada. She coordinated Cathedral celebrations for ordinations of Metropolitans, Bishops, and Priests. She cared most for the community of parishioners; donating her time preparing children for Holy Communion and May Devotions, organizing processions, assisting in Cathedral beautification, collecting donations for the upkeep of the parish and greeting everyone who entered. She loved taking pictures, cooking for campers at Ukrainian Park and attended Folklorama since its inception. Vichnaya Pam'yat! If family and friends so desire, donations can be made to the Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral Renovation Fund or Holy Family Home. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Deer Lodge Centre, Misericordia Health Centre, and especially St. Paul's unit at Holy Family Home, including Dr. Taras Babick, Dorota, Nena, and all the compassionate Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 25 and Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 26, both at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 111 McGregor Street, with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok officiating. Love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and, love your neighbour as yourself. Luke 10:27
