KENNETH MORTON RESHAUR, Ph.D. On November 20, 2010, Ken Reshaur passed away peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital. His family was with him throughout his illness. Ken will also be remembered by Joyce's sisters Shirley, Gayle, Dorothy and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Cliff and Gladys Reshaur, sisters Darlene Wallace and Shirley Laczko, brother-in-law John Laczko, sister-in-law Evelyn Reshaur and nephew Ron Reshaur. Ken was born on April 17, 1938 in Portage la Prairie and grew up on the family farm in Katrime, Manitoba. Our father was an exceptional student earning a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Duke University, Durham North Carolina. In 1964, he started his teaching career in Political Studies at York University, Toronto. In 1969, he joined the faculty of the University of Manitoba where he taught in the Department of Political Studies and served terms as head of the department until his retirement in 1997. Areas of special interest included the philosophy of the social sciences and political metaphors. Dad's passion was teaching. He was a highly regarded political theorist and took great pride in the success of many of his students. In 1992, he received the outstanding Teacher of the Year award from the Faculty of Arts. Always the eccentric professor, he earned the admiration of many students some of whom became lifelong friends. Dad enjoyed attending Learned Society conferences where he looked forward to renewing contacts and discussing scholarly papers on the latest work in his field. He presented papers at various conferences and was published in professional journals and books. Following his retirement, Dad joined the board of Kali Shiva Aids Services. He also found time to indulge his love of world travel which, over the years, included trips to Israel, South Africa, Turkey, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, India, Mauritius and Europe. Other interests included music, gardening and writing. Dad was a well-spoken man with an expansive vocabulary and a love for reading. Over the years, Dad faced a number of health challenges. Though he often struggled, he always managed to bounce back. The family is grateful to the compassionate and skilled caregivers of the Emergency Department and E5 of the St. Boniface Hospital, CD2 Riverview Health Centre and Parkview Place. Service of remembrance will be held at the Gladstone United Church on Saturday November 27 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Heather Lea presiding. Reception to follow in the church annex. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Another former student. All these years later I've been reviewing my notes on "Great Political Thinkers", a course Prof. Reshaur taught so well. I thought to look him up and was sorry to read of his passing. I was also pleased to read about his prairie roots, and his love of world travel. He was a terrific teacher. I loved that class. Here's to him. - Posted by: Peter Feniak (student) on: Mar 22, 2018

  • Dear Family, I am a former student of Ken. I am very sorry to her of his passing. I want to share my experience with you. Ken was my adviser while I was a master's student . I spent countless hours asking for and receiving his advice. He was very demanding and encouraged me not to settle for less than my best, and to set my goals higher. Thanks to him I didn't choose an easier career path, and took the time to choose and pursue my goals. I'm thankful for his advice. Best regards and condolences, Charles Sherbo - Posted by: Charles Sherbo (Friend) on: Nov 28, 2010
