CHRISTINE ENID BERARD (nee HIGGS) March 20, 1954 - November 22, 2010 Christine passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 56 years, after a three year courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Guy and boys Kevin, Michael and Stephen (twins); brother Steve Higgs (Linda); brothers-in-law: Albert (Marie-Anna) Berard, Raymond (Audrey) Berard, Florent (Rachel) Berard, Richard (Gisele) Berard, Bert Paulhus; sisters-in-law: Florence (Bob) Remillard, Julie (Don) Bonham, Gisele (Ron) Eldridge; Uncle Ken (June) and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Leslie and Enid Higgs and sister-in-law Alice Paulhus. Christine was born in Toronto, ON and she completed public school in Scarborough, ON graduating with honours. Her economics teacher suggested that she get a degree in Food Sciences. In 1977, Christine graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Sciences with a major in food and nutrition. She came to Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg as a clinical dietitian, which led her to 31 years of fulfilling employment with Central Regional Health Authority, providing dietitian services to small hospitals including Morris General Hospital, Red River Valley Lodge, Altona Health Centre, Eastview Place, Altona, and Emerson Health Centre/Personal Care Home. Christine was a devoted wife to her husband of 25 years and loving mother to her three sons. Christine was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and a devoted member of Christadelphians. She was patient, strong-willed and remained optimistic to the end of her life. She was known for her hospitality and special home-made pies. Her interests included cooking, going for coffee, knitting and reading. Special memories of the family are family celebrations at the farm, going to Holiday Mountain, Brereton Lake Resort, and St. Malo Beach. The family would like to thank the medical, nursing and support staff at Riverview Health Centre for the compassionate care given to the entire family during this difficult time. Donations in memory of Christine may be sent to Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 27 in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald, with lunch to follow. A private graveside ceremony held for immediate family only.
