JEANNE MACKENZIE ROSS (nee MURRAY) Peacefully, on November 18, 2010, Jeanne Ross passed away at the young age of 89. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her daughters Diane (Eddy), Holly (Graham); son Murray (Carol); grandchildren Kerrie, John, Shannon, Jamie and Kevin and great-grandchildren Taylor and Douglas. She was predeceased by her loving husband Jack in 1995. Jeanne was born in Fort William, Ontario on October 19, 1921 into a very loving family. Mom would often talk fondly about her childhood... and while there were tough times growing up, they were very happy times. Mom was a bright and hardworking student who strived for and achieved high marks...she was also an accomplished pianist achieving her Grade 10 in the Royal Conservatory of Music. Later she also became a bagpiper, playing with the inaugural Fort William Girls Pipeband. Mom's parents were very proud of her achievements. Mom met her man , Jack Ross, whom she married on June 9, 1941...choosing a traditional family role as a housewife over the workplace. Mom and Dad got married during the Second World War...and when Dad joined the Navy, she moved to Halifax to live so she could always be with him when his ship came in . After the war, they returned to Fort William to begin their civilian lives. Dad worked for C.P.R., so moving around the country became a pastime. The family grew as Mom and Dad moved to Winnipeg, Kenora, Winnipeg, Moose Jaw and Winnipeg again. Mom was great at a setting up our home everywhere we lived. Mom also enjoyed the many summers spent cottaging in Ignace, Ontario. Mom decided to enter the work force in the 1970s. She worked for the provincial government as a Financial Worker in the Social Assistance department. She enjoyed her time there and the many friendships she made. Over the years she belonged to many associations and clubs, including the Rotary, Toastmasters, a number of local Bridge Clubs, and more recently the Charleswood Golf and Curling Clubs. Mom will be remembered for her many loves in particular her love of her family and her love of life. The family is indebted to the many care giving people who touched her life during the last few years. Doctors McConnell and Kosowan and the outstanding, warm and comforting services of the staff at Deer Lodge Hospital including (to name a few) Wanda te Bokkel, Mavis O'Donahue and Myron Dyck. In accordance with Jeanne's wish, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life service will be held at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., on Tuesday, November 30 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either: The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 8200, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4W5 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6.
