RUBINA JEAN SMITH
Born: Aug 11, 1927
Date of Passing: Nov 20, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUBINA JEAN SMITH Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Jean Smith on November 20, 2010. Jean, born August 11, 1927, preceded by husband Edward, is survived by her sons - Richmond (Robin), Bobby (Colleen), Raymond (Donna), Charlie (Gisela), Rick, David (Debbie) and John; and daughters - Barbara (Jim), Deborah (Gordon), and Cathy. Jean was loved by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was admired by all for her compassion, perseverance and acceptance of living life to its fullest. Jean came from a large rural family in a small rural community. She set out at 17 to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. After short stints in Brandon and Selkirk, she fulfilled this dream and finally settled in Winnipeg. Despite the demands of work and being a single mother, Jean always kept an open door and an open heart to family and friends. We know Jean's desire to stay at home during her illness would not be possible without the support of the WRHA Palliative Support team, the Independent Living Resource Centre and her many attendants. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Independent Living Resource Centre 311A - 393 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. As per Jean's wishes, no service will be held. Her personal faith was not bound to any one denomination; Jean promoted acceptance, solace and understanding across the Christian spectrum, hence her decision for no service. In the spring of 2011, her ashes will be released in the Spy Hill, SK area, a place of countless fond memories from her childhood. There will be a small gathering for family and friends on Saturday, November 27 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at 401 - 229 Kearney St.
