NORMAN THEODORE LAFONTAINE January 5, 1925 November 23, 2010 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Lafontaine, husband to Agnes, father to Linda (Cliff) Bishop and Sandra Lafontaine and grandsons, Anthony (Tracy) and Mathew (Krystal). Norman was predeceased by his first wife Lillian Barthelette, his mother and father and four siblings. Norman was a veteran of the Navy where he served from 1942 to 1945. He worked for over 30 years until his retirement at the age of 59 as a Locomotive Engineer for the CNR. After his retirement, he became actively involved in running and completed three Manitoba Marathons. He was also a member of the Philharmonica Band and a creative woodcarver. Norman had a devoted faith in the Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. Until a few years ago, Norman volunteered delivering Communion to those who were unable to attend Sunday Mass. He established and was the President of the St. Mary's Cathedral Hargrave Social Club for many years. He married Agnes Vurgnier on November 21, 1981 and prior to his passing they celebrated their 29th year anniversary. Norman was likely mostly known to family, friends and acquaintances as a joke teller, most of them groaners, his most famous of them being Petey the Snake. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Special thank you to the staff of the St. Boniface Hospital, especially Angela, Lucjan and Mikyung for their care and compassion. Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church (778 Archibald St.) Interment will take place at a later date. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Norman's crazy sense of humour is exactly what I remember the best about him. But I often think back with sincere appreciation for Norman and his first wife, Lill, for their generous welcome of me into their family when I was just an awkward teenager attending St. Mary's with my time with my friend and classmate, Linda, and Sandra. You were my family away from home & I love you all! While we may have lost touch, I shall never forget your generous welcome. Deborah Kline (Lamoureux) or tĂȘte de la morue (cod fish head) as Norman always called me! - Posted by: Deborah Kline (Lamoureux) (Friend) on: Dec 03, 2010
