ROBERT (NEIL) SCHWITEK January 10, 1945 November 17, 2010 Peacefully, after a brief illness with cancer, Neil passed away with family by his side, on November 17, 2010 at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, MB. Neil was born on January 10, 1945 in Eriksdale, MB. He was the first son to George and Dorothy Schwitek. He grew up on the farm near Ashern where he attended Woolsery School. At the age of sixteen, Neil left Ashern to join the work force in Winnipeg. He held various positions until securing employment with Manitoba Hydro. During this time, Neil received a 25-year certificate for safe driving . Neil retired from Manitoba Hydro in 2000 at the age of 55. Following his retirement, he then worked at Mr. B's in Brandon until June of 2010. Neil was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion #3 in Brandon, was the Bingo Chairman for many years and was also a member of other organizations. He was an avid sports fan and, in his younger years, loved baseball, golf, shuffleboard and pool. Neil is survived by his loving wife Marlyn of 30 years; step-children Tracy of Calgary, Jackie of Winnipeg, Tina of Edmonton along with their families; two sons Sheldon of Kalamazoo, Missouri and Jason of Toronto, ON; daughter Tracy of Brandon as well as his many grandchildren; sisters Pat (Gilbert), Marilyn (Terry), Kathie (Steven); brother Grant (Shelly) and families all of Ashern, MB. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his father George (1974); his mother Dorothy (2006); brother Ronnie (2002); in-laws Henry Weibe (2000), Esther (1989) and niece Cindy (2009). Cremation has taken place and a memorial luncheon will be held on December 4, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion #3 located at 560 13th Street East in Brandon, MB. A celebration of Neil's life will take place at a graveside service to be held in the Lakeside Cemetery in Ashern, MB at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Neil can be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, Manitoba CancerCare Project, 150 McTavish Ave., East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3.
