Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLENARD ANDERE SOBIE October 25, 1950 - November 23, 2010 It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lenard Sobie with his family at his side on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Riverview Health Centre. He leaves behind his beloved daughters to cherish his memory, Cheryl Veronica and Victoria Lynn. Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer in May of 2009. He fought with a strength not many possess and survived a year longer than expected. He spent this time with his family and friends, sharing his limitless knowledge and expressing his love for his daughters and all those close to his heart. Lenard is survived by his siblings, Michael (Ann Batcules), Olga (Bruce) Blahey, Clara Christophe, Walter (Inez), Bernie (Louise) and sister-in-law Ann Sobie. Also left to cherish his memory, nieces and nephews, Peter (Kim), Richard, Janice (Mike), Tena (Darcy), Sharon (Terry), Karen (Mike), Kathy (Phil), Jean-Paul (Lori), Monique (Tom), Michelle (Gary), Jean-Marc, Mimi (James), Tiffany and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Also Glenda (Grapentine) Sobie, mother of his children and special friend Vikki Erlendson. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Joseph; brother Paul; and sister-in-law Liz. Lenard was born in Arborg, MB October 25, 1950 and was raised in Meleb, MB. Lenard was educated in Rembrandt School, Arborg Collegiate. He then went on to further his education at Assiniboine College, The Pas, MB in carpentry. Lenard spent most of his life in the building industry. In 1975 to 1979, he was in management with a large production home builder. In 1979, Lenard established his own construction company and in 1982 he began custom home building along with Glenda under the name of Glenlea Homes until 2000. In the year 2000, he established Amberlea Homes and continued custom home building until his retirement in 2008. He was respected in the home building industry as he contributed many new and innovative ideas that are currently used today. Lenard had a great passion for gardening since he was a young child. He always grew a large garden in excess of what he needed and shared the rest with his family and friends. He was also an avid hunter since he was 12 years old. He had some dear hunting friends, Barry, Derek, Donnie, Dave, Ken and especially his brother Bernie. They had a special place at a converted garage they called The Shack . One of the best things at The Shack was the breakfasts they had together. All of the guys always enjoyed the great breakfast that Lenard prepared. The guys will have fond memories when they get together at The Shack in future hunting trips and reminisce about the good times they had together. Early in his retirement he purchased a old restaurant in Grand Marais (Grand Beach) and rebuilt it to a brand new restaurant. Lenard hired Dave and Wally to work with him to rebuild the restaurant where he went back to his grassroots carpentry. The opening was scheduled for May 2010. Despite his cancer diagnosis in May of 2009, Lenard was determined and proceeded to rebuild the restaurant because of his lifelong passion for cooking and good food. It is so regretful that he was not able to fulfill his dream. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the 3E Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Centre for their kind, compassionate care and everyone else during his time of illness. Prayers will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon on Hwy. #7. Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philip's Roman Catholic Church, Arborg. Rev. Father Paul Bisson officiating. Interment will take place at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Meleb. Memorial donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre. I have fought the good fight to the end, I have run the race to the finish, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 MacKenzie Funeral Home, Arborg in care of arrangements.
