Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVERA B. FOLLIOTT On Sunday, November 21, 2010 in Ottawa, Ontario, Vera passed away peacefully. Beloved wife of the late W. C. (Bill) Folliott (1986), mother of her dear daughter Mary LYNN Carruthers (2000) and infant son, Charlie (1952), she was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Mary Bradley and her brothers, Harold (1981) and Eric (in infancy), all of St. John's, NL. Survived by Lynn's daughters, Chandra (Paul) Tyson and their children, Kayla, Lindsey, Ashton and Seth, all of Beachburg, ON, and Stacey Carruthers and her daughter, Devin, of Kingston, ON. Vera was born in St. John's on June 12, 1918. She attended Prince of Wales College there, followed by further studies in New York City. During the Second World War, she met Lieutenant W. C. (Bill) Folliott, R.C.N.V.R.. They were married in St. John's on December 2, 1943. As a war bride, she moved to Bill's home town of Winnipeg. In 1983, they moved to Ottawa to be near Lynn and her family. Vera was proud of her Newfoundland heritage and her adopted home of Winnipeg where she was very active in the Junior League and in fundraising for the Balmoral Hall School for Girls Mother's Auxiliary during Lynn's years at Balmoral Hall (1951 to 1963). Vera was a talented homemaker, seamstress and cook. She loved to golf and tell people about her hole-in-one'. Later in life she maintained her interest in sports and current affairs, despite deafness and other health problems. According to her wishes, Vera was cremated. A graveside service with family and friends will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, on Monday, November 29 at 11.00 a.m. (meet in the main building at 10.45 a.m.).
