MARTHA ZARECKI October 26, 1927 November 25, 2010 Peacefully on November 25, 2010, Martha left us to reunite with her beloved husband Walter Zarecki. Martha was predeceased by Walter in July 2010 and her son Jerry in 1985. She leaves to mourn her children Cliff (Marilyn), Tom (Cindy), Adelard (Betty Ann), Irene (Clair), and a large extended family including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was born in Winnipeg and raised in Brightstone, Manitoba. She married Walter in 1945 and moved to the Lee River to farm. In the early 1960's they moved to the town of Lac du Bonnet to raise their children while continuing to farm until the late 1980's. In between farming and raising her family, Mom managed to find time to work part time until she retired in the late 1980's. Mom never truly retired though as she had so many interests in life. If she wasn't creating beautiful knitted sweaters for her family, she was busy making her famous borscht, perogies, cabbage rolls and sweets for us. Mom loved her vegetable garden in the summer and would always produce extra especially for her grandkids. She was always trading or sharing roots and bulbs from her flower garden for everyone to enjoy. She had a knack for finding antique treasures at yard sales but her favourite was the toys she would bargain hunt for her grandkids. Mom was well known for her creative talents from her costume creations to her ceramics. She taught and co-managed a ceramic shop for many years with her sisters-in-law from her home. She was always game for an adventure and a willing participant in any family event. Mom's fun loving nature and love for her family leaves us with so many treasured memories. We will miss her and always remember her wonderful sense of humour, songs and quick wit. Her family would like to thank the staff at the Pinawa Hospital for the compassionate care she received. A Remembrance Tea will be held Tuesday, November 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lac du Bonnet Legion. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to remember Martha may donate to the Lac du Bonnet District Charitable Foundation Inc., PO Box 744, Lac du Bonnet, MB R0E 1A0.
