JOHN SHAW Peacefully, on November 25, 2010, John Gerald Shaw passed away at the age of 62, with his beloved wife and true love, Irene at his side, after a valiant fight with cancer. He was predeceased by both parents and a brother Stanley. John will be especially missed by his wife and sweetie of over 38 years, Irene. He leaves a magnificent legacy behind with his son Jared (Maria) of Port Moody, BC and their children, Christian and Lauren; and daughter Dana Warren (Scott) of Selkirk, MB and their children, Kaitlyn and Sarah. He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Shirley Ruchkall (Ed) and Linda Shaw; his brothers, Nick, Earl (Jean), Lawrence and Ed Stefanishyn and all their children. John will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gord and Shirley Bodnar of Saskatoon, SK and their children, Kristen and Jordan. Also, cherishing his memory are numerous cousins, friends and his treasured adopted families that made his world so bright. John graduated from Red River College as a Power Engineer and spent most of his career at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre. He retired in 2003 to be able to spend more time with his family and friends. John was madly in love with his wife, Irene and would tell anyone that would listen just how much she meant to him. He admired her beauty, her intelligence and loved every moment of their lives together. Irene was the light of his life and he will forever love her, even from afar. He also adored his grandchildren and they brought light to his eyes even in the last moments. He spent many hours playing silly games, going on special outings with them, taking trips out to BC and imparting his wisdom. Papa has given his grandchildren a tremendous gift; exceptional memories, traditions, skills and values that will live on in his honour as he soars with the angels. John will be remembered for the laughter and warmth he brought to our lives. He was always available to lend a hand to whomever called and made those around him laugh with his wit and humour. He amazed everyone with his talents in woodworking, gardening, cooking, plumbing, electrical and even lip synching! He had a tremendous outlook on life and always encouraged those around him to be thankful for their families, health and happiness. He was a faithful man and truly believed that life was a gift. He touched many people's lives and brought out the very best in people. Donations can be made in his memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Selkirk, MB R3E 0V9. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 30 at 1:00 p.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, Selkirk with Fr. Dado Parrenas officiating.
