Born: May 11, 1924
Date of Passing: Nov 16, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORAH LOEPPKY (nee PITTENDREIGH) Born the third daughter of Christina and Andrew Pittendreigh, May 11, 1924 at Bridgefoot, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Norah came with her family to Canada as a toddler and was raised just outside Rivers, Manitoba. She completed psychiatric nursing training at Brandon, MB, where she met Bill Loeppky, her husband for 52 years. Norah and Bill lived all across the Prairies raising one child, Terry. They moved to Victoria in 1996 to be close to Terry and daughter-in-law Dorothy Rich. Following Bill's death in August 2000, Norah established a new independent life for herself. She became an active participant in the James Bay New Horizons Society and was honoured with a lifetime membership in recognition of her contribution to the organization. An active sportswoman throughout her life, Norah became a stalwart of the Canadian Pacific Lawn Bowling Club in her final years. For the past 10 months, Norah fought courageously against the complications of a major heart attack and an incurable cancer. She survived an 80-day stay in hospital last spring but was readmitted to hospital November 10. Norah died peacefully in Hospice November 16, 2010. Her death brought liberation from pain and the increasing physical limitations she suffered in the last few months. Husband Bill; sisters, Daisy and Isobel; brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter, Neil, Walter, John, Jacob, Died, Henry, Ben, Sara, Trudy, Agatha and Helen, predeceased Norah. The loss of a mother is a terrible, shocking pain. No preparation, sense of naturalness or right timing can lessen this fact. Our loss is shared by a large and distant extended family: Nan, Don and Kathy, her siblings; brothers and sisters-in-law: Dave, Ed, Bernie (Helen), Tony (Hilda), Johanna, Helen and Mary Loeppky, Eva O'Hara, Hilda (Art Toews) and a multitude of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Held in universal high regard by those who knew her, Norah is sorely missed by her community of friends. A gathering of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4 in the James Bay New Horizons Centre, 234 Menzies St., Victoria, BC. In lieu of flowers, please give to a charity of your choosing. Peace, I leave with you... Let your heart not be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27
