Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK BIRT It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Fred, in his 93rd year, on November 26, 2010. Fred has gone to join the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Freda, who passed away July 4, 2000. Fred was predeceased by his cherished sons Clive (1950), and Tim (2009), brothers Arthur, William, Charles, and Gordon, and his sister Eileen (Brown). Fred will always be loved, missed, and remembered by his children, Christopher and wife E. M. (Yeti) Agnew of Toronto, Ian and wife Colleen, and daughter-in-law Angela all of Winnipeg. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Sean, Richard, Wendy, Patrick (Cynthia), Rick (Erica), Marc (Lisa), Sara, Pam (Steve), and Jenn as well as his great-grandchildren Chandler, Cameron, Connor, Carter, Cailyn, Jozef, Matthew, and Michael, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and South Africa. Fred was born August 3, 1918, in Winnipeg to William and Abigail (Taylor) Birt. He was the youngest of six children and extremely proud of his English/Scottish heritage. He grew up in Winnipeg and completed his education with a degree in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba. After graduation, Fred volunteered for Military Service with the Royal Canadian Service Corps and served in England from 1942 to 1946 where he rose to the rank of Captain. It was here that Fred met, fell in love with, and married Freda, a nurse in a military hospital during the war. They were wed on September 18, 1943 and moved back to Winnipeg in 1946 to raise their family. Once home, Fred began his career dealing with Agricultural Chemicals with Chipman Chemicals which was absorbed by CIL, and then later moved to May and Baker, an English subsidiary of Rhone and Poulenc. His career took him to Burlington, Montreal, and Toronto over the years. He retired to Etobicoke and finally, he and Freda returned to Winnipeg in 1999. The family wishes to thank the staff of Concordia Place, 2nd Floor - D Side for the wonderful comfort and care provided to Fred, especially during his last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ovarian Cancer Canada on behalf of Cheryl and the West Coast Browns or Concordia Place, 1000 Molson St., Winnipeg, MB. A Service of Remembrance and reception will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillvary Blvd. with Rev. Helen Manfield officiating.
