JOHN CARLYLE GILMORE John Gilmore, a Winnipeg native, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 in his 84th year at Wood Haven Long Term Care Centre. John lived a full life with Ellen, his wife of 59 years. Together they raised five children - Douglas, Robert, Diane, Alison and Lorraine. John warmly embraced his children's spouses Donna, Christine, Bruce, David and Richard into his growing family and rejoiced at the arrival of 12 grandchildren - Rebecca, Meghan, Jennica, Michael, Greydon, Vanessa, Cameron, Scott, Eric, Michelle, Clare and Alexa. John will be sadly missed by his brother Oren and wife Bette. His 40 year career as a Professional Engineer included senior positions at Thunder Bay Hydro and North York Hydro. John enjoyed singing in church choir, volunteerism within his profession and community and puttering in the garden. In retirement, he enjoyed curling, travelled to many parts of the world and golfed because Ellen did. He was consistent in his integrity, hard work, generosity and fellowship throughout his life and was guided by a strong religious foundation. The family will receive relatives and friends at Thornhill United Church, 25 Elgin Street, Thornhill, ON for visitation at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 4, 2010 followed by a celebration of his life at 12:00 noon and a reception to follow. Donations in honour of John can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Thornhill United Church.
