MARGARET BUNN Margaret A. Bunn (nee Sykes) passed away on the morning of November 28, 2010, to be with her beloved husband, Edward, who predeceased her in November, 1944. Margaret's last days were spent in peace at the Heritage Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, MB, after a rich life of 98 years. Her previous residence was at the Portsmouth Retirement Residence where she was the first resident and spent most of her last ten years. Margaret was born in October of 1912 in Portage la Prairie, MB, to parents Alicia and Arthur Sykes, who arrived in Canada as immigrants from England that same year. Her school years provided Margaret with many lasting friendships. Throughout her young adulthood Margaret worked in her brother's insurance office and as an au pair for his children in Flin Flon, MB. This is where she met her future husband, Edward Bunn who descended from the historical Bunn family of Manitoba. While in Flin Flon she and Edward had two children, Margaret (Peggy) and Norman, both of whom survive to say farewell. Sadly, Edward died in Flin Flon and Margaret and her preschool children moved to Brandon, MB, to live with her parents. During this time, Margaret worked hard to juggle single motherhood and her career as a Manpower Counselor. Margaret was a member of the Brandon Business and Professional Women's Club, a Brandon School Trustee, in the Women's Auxiliary of St. Matthew's Anglican Church, on the board of the Y.W.C.A. and in the Council of Women. Margaret's love of people was reflected in her work as a salesperson after her retirement. Of particular pride was Margaret's position on the President's Club of Avon, which she held for four years. She worked at this until she was in her early 80s. In all areas of her life, Margaret was a great achiever. In her later years, Margaret enjoyed her membership in the Charleswood Adult Day Club. Her family remembers Margaret as a positive influence. As well as her two children, she is survived by her son-in-law, Peter Tyndale, her grandchildren, Edward, Meagan, Kathleen, Robert and Heather and great-grandchildren, Christine and Janet. Even at the end of her life, Margaret had a strong, beautiful mind and a wonderful sense of humour. Above all else, she loved her family and was an inspiration to them. Her strength and perseverance constantly amazed those fortunate enough to know her. For those who hold her memory dear, her life is a lesson in meeting adversity with hard work, tenacity and humour. The family would like to thank the Charleswood Adult Day Club for the many enjoyable years and also thank her special friends, Phyl and Amy DeNeve for sharing many months of evening phone calls filled with much laughter. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at the Portsmouth Seniors Residence, 125 Portsmouth Boulevard on Saturday, December 4 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers kindly make a donation to the charity of your choice.
