MARIAN PEILUCK (GULANSKY) 1954 - 2010 After a courageous battle with cancer Marian Peiluck passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the Grace Hospice in Winnipeg. Though predeceased by her father, John, she will be lovingly remembered by her mother, Mary; siblings, Elizabeth (Henry), Olive (Peter), Sylvester (Lydia), Joanne; and many nieces and nephews. She will also be deeply mourned by her husband of 33 years of marriage, Edward, and their two children, Craig and Karen (Thomas). Marian moved to Winnipeg from her hometown of Tway, SK to pursue a degree in Home Economics. This was the beginning of what would be a life-long passion for learning and education. One of Marian's greatest pleasures was learning about different cultures, whether it was through travel, volunteerism or teaching English as an alternative language. Her love of teaching English grammar and Canadian culture at the University of Manitoba, as well as at Red River Community College, and her committed effort throughout the years to help recent immigrants with strategies to adjust to new lives in Winnipeg was inspirational and admirable. Her interest in multiculturalism and in her own heritage led Marian to become involved in the Ukraine's transition to democracy and she played an important role in ensuring that Ukrainian elections were held to international democratic standards. In 2004 she took part in the historic Orange Revolution as one of approximately 500 people chosen from Canada to monitor the re-run of the second round of Presidential Elections in the Ukraine and later returned in 2006 to observe the country's Parliamentary Elections. She was very proud to represent Canada abroad and her experiences in the Ukraine left an indelible mark on her. When not busy travelling, learning, and teaching, Marian spent much of her time sewing. She was an accomplished designer and seamstress, who held her own business for many years and created a beautiful wardrobe, not only for herself, but also for many clients, friends and family. Her services, expertise and creativity were always in high demand. It only took one look at her very full workshop to know that many a happy hour had been spent in front of the Singer sewing machine. Marian's enthusiastic and positive approach to life, her kindness and compassion to all creatures big and small, and her outgoing personality and infectious laugh will be sorely missed by all those who knew her. Words cannot express how much Edward and her children will miss her and treasure her memory. Prayers will be held Friday, December 3, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion Street with Rev. Fr. John Mostivsky presiding. A luncheon will be held in Winnipeg with the Interment following in St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Gimli, MB. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospice for the kindness, compassion and exceptional care Marian received and would also like to thank Olive and Peter, Gail, and the Gastls for their unconditional support during Marian's final months. Special warm thoughts go out to Karen, who was with Marian during her final moment. Donations in Marian's honour can be made to her sponsor child in the Ukraine, Anastasia (child identification - LV1-1956) and sent directly to: Chalice, 68 Main St./P.O Box 2099, Springhill, Nova Scotia B0M 1X0.
