Alice was born at home on the family farm near Cardale, Manitoba on December 31, 1922. After a brief tenure as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Western Manitoba, she worked at the bank in Oak River until her marriage. Thereafter, she dedicated her life to raising a family of five children. She returned to the work force in 1968 with Eatons Financial Services where she worked happily until 1987, when she and Maurice retired to Edmonton. There they enjoyed being a part of an active social community, making many dear friends. After 45 years of marriage, Maurice passed away, and in 1994 Alice returned to Winnipeg. Now on her own, she filled her time visiting her expanding family, and with creative pursuits such as needlework and painting. She also loved crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Alice leaves her family with many precious memories, such as corn roasts at the farm in Anola, family gatherings at Christmas and New Year's, vacations at Grand Beach and picnics at Assiniboine Park. Alice had many interests, but she derived her greatest joy from her role as mother and grandmother. She will be remembered as the matriarch of not only her own household of seven, but of three generations of families. If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Alice to a charity of their choice. A private memorial service for family and close friends was held on December 2, 2010 at the Hotel Fort Garry, to be followed by interment at Rapid City at a later date. Alice will be remembered for her nurturing spirit and unwavering devotion to her family Online condolences may be made at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550
