WILLIAM (BILL) BRECKNELL
Born: Aug 08, 1920
Date of Passing: Nov 16, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM (BILL) BRECKNELL August 8, 1920 - November 16, 2010 Bill died peacefully, after a brief illness, comforted by his family. Left to mourn are his love of 60 years, Rosaleen, his children Michael (Denise), Sharon (Art) and Cathy, and grandchildren Vincent, Matthew, Caitlin, Patrick, Daniel and Elizabeth. Bill was born in Vancouver, attended Vancouver Tech and at 17 joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. His training as a radio and telecom specialist took him overseas in the Second World War and afterward throughout Canada, including the high Arctic. He retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer after a 37 year career. Bill strongly believed in the honour of the military and was proud to be one of the men and women who serve Canada in uniform at home and abroad. In retirement Bill and Rosaleen lived in Sidney and later in Parksville. Throughout his life Bill liked being near or on the water enjoying fishing, boating and exotic cruises all over the world with Rosaleen. On land he loved time in the garden nurturing exotic plants and growing bountiful produce or puttering in his workshop skillfully repairing practically anything that was broken. In retirement he became a skilled designer and creator of wooden toys and works of art from the animal kingdom, each realistically painted and beautifully mounted for his family's enjoyment and his grandchildren's delight. In his last few years Bill lovingly and patiently cared for Rosaleen as she faced her own health challenges. All of Bill's family will miss his ready smile, gentle voice, subtle wit and quiet wisdom. No service at this time by request. There will be a memorial near the ocean in the spring. Condolences may be sent to: Mr. M. Brecknell, 11150 Horseshoe Drive, Prince George, BC, V2N 5W8 or by email to wiseowl@telus.net
