Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETRO DANYLIUK It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Petro Danyliuk on November 30, 2010. He lost the valiant fight for his life at the age of 87 years. Petro Danyliuk was born on March 31, 1923 in Seliatyn, a village in Bukovyna, Ukraine, (then under Romanian control) into the family of Ambroisiy and Kateryna (nee Petriw) as the eldest of 11 children. Petro was the loving husband of Halyna; father to Victor and Boris (Kirsten); grandsons, Alexander, Nicholas and Andrew. He finished his secondary education in Seliatyn and post-secondary education in the Czech town of Podebrady. He immigrated to Canada in 1947 and met mom at a Christmas play at the UNF club in Winnipeg, in 1949. Upon his arrival in Canada, Petro quickly became very involved with the Ukrainian community. He was editor of Ukrainian Voice, Holos Molodi, and a distributor of the journal Bukovyna. Over time, dad contributed to many Ukrainian newspapers: New Pathway, Canadian Farmer and Ukrainian Voice. He served on many committees of Ukrainian national organizations, including secretary of the Ukrainian National Youth Organization and the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. Petro also trained with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. His biggest contribution to the Ukrainian community is his collection of Ukrainica; rare calendars, journals, newspapers, pamphlets, books and correspondence of various Ukrainian institutions and organizations in Canada: including the Ukrainian Self-Reliance League, Ukrainian Canadian Committee - (KUK), Ukrainian National Federation (UNO), Organizations of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN), the Canadian Ukrainian Youth Association and the Ukrainian Fraternal Society. This collection is housed in the libraries of both the Universities of Manitoba and Winnipeg. Petro was a member of the executive board of many Ukrainian organizations including Kalyna Ukrainian Cooperative, Carpathia Credit Union and Ukrainian Fraternal Society. Dad also leaves to mourn his sisters in Bukovina, Ukraine and their respective families and a brother in Kyiv. The family wishes to thank his caregivers at Tuxedo Villa and The Deer Lodge Centre for the care and attention that was devoted to his needs. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 11 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., Winnipeg.
