Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRODERICK C. MCKENZIE April 18, 1937 - November 18, 2010 With his family at his side, Rod passed away peacefully on November 18, 2010. Born and raised in northern Saskatchewan, he spent his school years at Prince Albert Residential School. Rod moved to Manitoba as a young man and spent the rest of his life here. His love for Manitoba's north was evident throughout his life. It was there that he chose to live and work. It's where he met his closest friends and had the best times. Rod loved to entertain and cook. His northern dishes like sturgeon and caribou were legendary and the house was always filled with friends and family ready to taste whatever he was making. To his kids, the phrase you'll like it, it tastes just like chicken was a common one. He made a huge impact in Northern Manitoba. Over the years he worked for the provincial, federal and municipal governments in Leaf Rapids, Thompson, Churchill and The Pas. His specialty was northern development and he worked closely with aboriginal organizations to make sure their voices were heard. His commitment to the north is what made him so good at his job. His integrity, trustworthiness and genuine love for the people of the north are what made him such a good and trusted friend. You need only to travel around the north and mention his name to know the impact he had. He will be remembered and missed by his friends and family: wife Alice, children Wanda (Martin), Darrell (Debra) and Kevin (Gail), grandchildren Andy (Jen), Brianne, Brett and Tyler and one great-grandson Cole. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in The Pas at a later date. Notification will be provided.
