EGON KLAUS BERGMANN July 14, 1931 - December 6, 2010 It is with sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Husband, Dad and Opa. He died within the first hour of Monday, December 6, the day he was scheduled for open heart surgery. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, welcoming nature, gentleness, patience and generosity. These traits were exemplified in the loving care he gave his ailing wife. Egon was a devoted husband to his wife Irene, a caring father to Karen and James and a doting grandfather to Carly. Survived by his brothers, Helmut (Karin), Heinz (Irmgard); and sister Karin (Friedrich) in Germany; relatives, Mary Rueckert in Selkirk, Adele Sachvie in Beausejour and Rodolf Henkel (Anita) in Calgary. He'll be sadly missed by long-time friend Doreen Pickard in Winnipeg and many other relations and friends in Europe and Canada. He immigrated to Canada from Germany as a young man and tried his hand at logging and carpentry in Ontario. In Winnipeg he married, raised a family and after retiring from Klassen Manufacturing Ltd. as a machinist, Abbotsford became home. Family provided Egon with such simple pleasures as conversations over dinner and a steaming Mocha. Opa especially cherished time spent with his 14 year old granddaughter Carly, delighting in her every accomplishment in life. In addition, he also enjoyed his exercise classes at the Senior Club; skyping with his brother Heinz on Sunday mornings; visits from Mr. and Mrs. H. Gorbahn, Sister Wan, Sister Funk; the support and endearing friendship from his neighbours, Scotty and Gerry Cox. Our family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and health professionals who so compassionately cared for Egon during his month long stay in Abbotsford Regional and New West Royal Columbian Hospitals. Particular thanks to Dr. Ken Dueck; nurses, David Bennet and Renata Woodland; case-workers, Cherrie Wakefield and Christine Callaghan. Flowers gratefully declined in favour of a donation in support of animals or families. Let us celebrate his life while sharing memories at Afternoon Tea on Tuesday, December 14, 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at SerendipiTea, 2626 Montrose Avenue, Abbotsford, BC.
