ALLAN CLIFFORD OWENS March 5, 1925 - December 4, 2010 Peacefully on December 4, 2010 at Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg at the age of 85. Born in Manitou, Manitoba, a son of George (Roy) and Bertha Maud Owens (nee McFadden) and a grandson of pioneer families Owens, McFadden, Clarke and Allan. Allan is survived by his five children and their families, Allan (Roderick) and wife Kathy, and Ross Cameron of Springfield, Manitoba, Roy McFadden of Oakville, Ontario, Shelley Colleen Fitzpatrick and husband Alan Brown, and Tracy June and husband Rene Tilscher, both of Vancouver, British Columbia, and his grandchildren Tyler, Ryan, Conor, Morgan, Chantal, Keyvan and Maya. Also survived by his brother Roderick (Garth) and Shirley Owens of Hemet, California and their children. Allan had a love for Springer Spaniels (several named Tory) who provided companionship and joy throughout his lifetime. Most recently, we lost Gibson, a charming Golden Retriever who Allan adored. Curling was Allan's game. He enjoyed it immensely, and had that keen, competitive spirit which brought him much success. He was a member of the Strathcona Curling Club for many years. While reminiscing about his curling days, he would refer to it as It was my life. One such accomplishment Allan was proud of was the 1957 MCA Bonspiel. Curling second for the Marno Frederickson rink, they went on a 20-game winning streak and captured two events. Way to go Allan. Building was always a hobby of Allan's. Whether it was building his house, a stereo receiver or an automobile, he meticulously studied and eagerly worked on his pet projects. He passionately spent five years working on the Owens family tree with his cousin, a project he thoroughly enjoyed. A career of 30 years was spent in the insurance industry as a loss prevention officer and inspector in Manitoba and NW Ontario. Service to the forces included the RCAF in 1944 and the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm in 1945. The family would like to thank Allan's cousin Lea Mansell and her husband Dale, children Michael, Mark, Myrna and Marlene for the overwhelming kindness they showed to him. To the staff at Concordia hospital and the pallative care team, a sincere thank you for the caring and compassion you gave to our father. May he rest in peace. In keeping with the wishes of our father there will not be a funeral service.
