RUTH BLEEKS It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Bleeks on December 5, 2010. Ruth was born in 1932 in Portage la Prairie to Russel and Nellie Shaver. After graduating from Portage Collegiate, Ruth received her Professional First Class Teacher's Certificate from Provincial Normal School and later obtained a Bachelor of Education. Her first teaching position was in a one-room school house near Portage. Ruth loved to teach primary-aged children. She ran her own nursery and kindergarten and taught in Dauphin and for St. James School Division. With her typical spirit of curiosity, at age 67, Ruth returned to university and completed a Bachelor of Arts, her second degree. In 1984 Ruth married Philip and there was scarcely a day when they were apart. They loved to travel, learn, read and socialize with the people in their block. Ruth believed in God, in goodness, in fair play and good fun. She continued to teach us until the very end that life was what one made of it. Ruth is survived by Philip; her beloved children Heather Rombough (Kevin) and Mark; step-daughter Laurie Bleeks (Todd Kjartanson) and her grandchildren Dustin and Meghan Kjartanson. Our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff on 3E at Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held at the United Church in Meadowood, 1111 Dakota Street on December 14 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Shelly Manley-Tannis officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Rm. ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
