Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDORIS ELEANOR ANDERSON (August 4, 1933 - December 6, 2010) Peacefully, at home Doris passed away on December 6, 2010 at the age of 77. She is now re-united with her loving husband Lorne, who predeceased her on October 5, 2010. Left to cherish her memory are their children Greg Anderson, Kathy (Brent) Sigurdson, Gordon (Cindy) Anderson, Elin (Lawrence) Johnson, Lorraine (Hugh) Collins and Karen Anderson; grandchildren Stephen (Stephanie), Paul and Christopher Sigurdson; Garry (Jackie), Allison and Derrick (Brittney) Anderson; Ryan (Melanie) and Darren (Bridget) Johnson; Melissa (John), Angela and Megan (Wade) Collins and great-granddaughters Sofia Anderson and Taylor Johnson; brother and sister-in-law Valdi and Irene Sveinson and brother-in-law Joey Arnason as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her parents, Valdi and Lilja Sveinson and her sister-in-law Elin (Diddy) Arnason. Mom worked as an RN at Gimli Hospital, Lakeside Camp, and 20 years at Betel Home, Gimli, finishing her career there as Head Nurse. She took pride in keeping in touch with her nursing classmates and attended many class reunions. She retired at age 55 to enjoy time with Dad. She then started a new career as an Avon representative with deliveries being made with Dad as her driver. After retiring she continued to serve the community through volunteer work with the Minerva Ladies Aide, Gimli Seniors Resource, and the Kiwanis Club of Gimli and District. She was proud to receive the Premiers Volunteer Service Award which was presented to her in 2008 by Premier Gary Doer. Mom will be remembered fondly by her family for her Sunday suppers and her fresh baked bread. Amma and Afi's house was the meeting place for the grandchildren after school where they enjoyed snacks of toast and Amma's homemade jam. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010, in the Gimli Lutheran Church, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor David Lowe officiating. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at CancerCare, McCharles Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gimli Senior Resource or Gimli Betel Home Foundation.
