Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBRUNO SCHON 1934 - 2010 It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Bruno (age 76) at Deer Lodge Centre, December 3, 2010 from lung cancer. Bruno is survived by his daughter Valerie Hildebrand and son-in-law Andy Hildebrand as well as five siblings Victoria and Irmgard (of Ohio), Katie (of Arizona), Hans (of Oregon) and Helmut (of Germany) and their families. Bruno was predeceased by his brothers Robert (of California), Walter (of Oregon) and Theo (of Ontario) as well as his parents Johann and Katherine Schon (of Ohio). Bruno was married for 55 years and predeceased by his wonderful wife Elaine on April 29, 2010. Bruno was dedicated to business as a long time food broker, world traveller, and loved curling and especially fishing. Bruno loved to collect coins, books, stamps and had an impressive library dedicated to world travel. We will miss him forever. Bruno was born in Cogealac (near Constanta, Romania) on April 17, 1934. He attended elementary school at Gemunden (near Wurtzburg, Germany) from November 11, 1941 to 1942 and then for six months in Hosposin (near Prague, Czechoslavakia) in 1943 and finished elementary school in Asten (near Linz, Austria) from 1943 to 1945. In Linz he completed his Elementary / High School in 1948 and then went for Vocational Training in Goggingen / Augsbury Germany from September 16, 1948 to 1952. Bruno immigrated to Canada on April 22, 1952 travelling on the Canadian Pacific Steamship Beaverbrae and landed in Bremen, Quebec. He travelled to Manitoba and worked on various farms in the Swan River area in 1952. He then moved to Flin Flon in the fall of 1952 and worked for Western Grocers until the spring of 1961. During his time in Flin Flon, Bruno met his wonderful soulmate Elaine and they married at the Pentecostal Church in Flin Flon on March 3, 1955. Their daughter Valerie was born in Flin Flon in the fall of 1957. Bruno and Elaine then moved to Winnipeg where Bruno held various positions including General Manager for F. Archibald Brokerage / Vu-Pak Company. He also was Manager of Brokerage Services at United Grain Growers. He continued his career at W.H. Escott Co. and held positions including Special Crops Consultant until his retirement in 2010. Bruno and Elaine had family homes on Polson Avenue, Portage Avenue and Banting Drive in Winnipeg. Cremation has taken place and a private service was held. Interment was held at Chapel Lawn. In lieu of flowers, we know Bruno would appreciate a donation to the Salvation Army or Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). Thank you from the family for all the messages of condolences, your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. A special thank you to the management and staff at Deer Lodge Centre and Sturgeon Creek II for their care of Bruno in the last year. Elaine and Bruno are now at peace together.
