She was predeceased by her husband George Vermeulen, in 1957 and daughter Beryl Liske in 1994. Myrtle was born in 1909 in Ramona, South Dakota. Her family homesteaded near Radville in southern Saskatchewan in 1913. Myrtle attended normal school in Regina in 1928 and taught for some years in Saskatchewan. In 1932, she married George Vermeulen. They moved to the Swan River Valley in 1935 and farmed in the Thunderhill District until George's passing in 1957. Myrtle then moved to Bowsman, MB where she was a dedicated beloved grade one teacher until her retirement in 1974. After retirement, she enjoyed travelling with friends, seniors groups, gardening and flowers. Crossword puzzles, card games, quilting and knitting were favourite pastimes. She played an extremely competitive game of Scrabble into her late 90's. Time spent with her grandchildren was one of her great joys. We wish to extend thanks and appreciation to the many home care workers, staff and friends at Rainbow Lodge, Swan Valley Personal Care Home and Golden Door Geriatric Centre for the kind, compassionate care given to our mother over the last few years. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Service for Seniors, 516 Main Street, Swan River, MB or charity of one's choice.
