Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA SAWCZAK Suddenly at Holy Family Home, Maria Sawczak passed away peacefully on December 12, 2010 with her niece Christine at her side. Maria was born on September 26, 1908 in the village of Semushova, Lemkiwszczyna. As a young woman she was forced into labour in Germany until 1945. After the war she immigrated to England in 1947 where she met the love of her life Ivan, whom she married in 1950. In 1951 they immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. She was a member of St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, where she was also a member of the Seniors Club. She was employed with several restaurant establishments. Maria lived with her husband Ivan for 45 years until his demise on January 16, 1995. During her life, Maria and Ivan sponsored Christine, niece of Ivan. She was the highlight of their life, along with her husband Richard and their three sons. They were the only close family to Maria and Ivan in Canada. Maria leaves to mourn extended families in Poland, Ukraine, England and the USA. Panachyda will be sung 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 14 (tonight) at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 15 at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Avenue with Fr. L. Ratushniak, C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Pilipowicz, Slawko Pilipowicz, Ivan Petric, Slawko Putko, Mariush Shul and Kazimierz Czajkowski. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations to the Fr. Pulak Foundation are accepted. Special thanks to the staff of Holy Family Home, especially the angels on St. Mary's Ward and Pastoral Care for their dedicated care and support to our Auntie.
