WILLIAM E. (BILL) SIM August 9, 1926 December 15, 2010 With his loving family surrounding him, Bill Sim passed away peacefully on December 15th at the age of 84. He leaves to mourn his wife Winnifred, children Bryan, Margot (Ken), Paul (Leslie) and Merrily (Randal) and nine grandchildren who were the joy of his life: Daniel, Chelsey, Alyssa, Deanna, Rebecca, Holly, Maggie, Michael, and Leona. Bill graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute and served in the Canadian Armed Forces Armoured Corps, Fort Garry Horse. After attending Business College, he worked for the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Department where he met Winnifred, his wife of 58 years. Bill was later employed at British American Oil and McColl Frontenac Oil before returning to the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Department where he retired as Superintendent of Facilities in St. James Assiniboia. Cycling was Bill's passion. He not only encouraged his family to ride bikes, he enjoyed supplying brand new bikes as his grandchildren grew. Bill was an avid member of the Winnipeg Cycling Club, both as a bike racer and a race organizer. As a member of the Canadian Cycling Association, he often travelled with talented, young riders as they attended out-of-province cycling meets. When he and Winnifred spent winters in Arizona, Bill would average 1,500 miles of biking there each year. Bill was humble, loyal, generous, and was gifted with a unique sense of humour. His family was the most important part of his life and his favourite occupation soon became grandfathering. He was a member of Grace Bible Church and regularly attended worship services and special events there. Cremation has taken place at the request of the deceased. A memorial service celebrating Bill's life will be held on Saturday, December 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Bible Church (366 Oakwood). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
