LULA (LU) H. CLYDE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lu Clyde on Thursday, December 9, 2010. Remaining to forever cherish Lu is her beloved sister Jean Clyde (Prince Albert); cousins Gwenn (George) Borsos and their daughters Karen, Brenda and Dawn; dear friend Thelma Piercy; and treasured godsons Brent and Brian (Ann) Piercy (Calgary). She was predeceased by her parents Flossie and Roy Clyde. Born in Neepawa, Manitoba and raised in Pleasantdale, Saskatchewan, Lu enjoyed a long and outstanding career with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Recognizing her ability the CIBC transferred Lu to the Portage and Garry branch in Winnipeg. In time, she progressed to become the Business Development Officer for the CIBC Regional Office. During her storied career, Lu broke the glass ceiling' for women in banking when the CIBC appointed her the first woman bank manager in Canada in 1967, and she became manager of the International Inn, Notre Dame and Arlington and Main and Jefferson branches. Following a long and respected career, full of great and lasting friendships developed along the way, Lu retired from the CIBC in 1986. Following her official retirement, Lu became a RRIF specialist for the CIBC and a founding member of its National Retirement Advisory Committee in Toronto. Lu gained great personal satisfaction by giving back to the community through volunteer work. She received recognition from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and volunteered for many years with the United Way, the Canadian Cancer Society, and Ducks Unlimited. Lu loved life. She was a great animal lover, with a keen sense of fun and good humour, and was a compassionate, true and reliable friend to all who had the good fortune to be part of her life. Golf and curling were two of her loves, and pursuing these passions at the Wildwood Club and Thistle Curling Club allowed her to develop many lasting friendships. During the summer, Lu could usually be found enjoying the cottage on Lake Winnipeg. On Monday, December 20, 2010 Lu's Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue at Mt. Royal Rd., Winnipeg. A private Interment will be held in Neepawa at a later date. We would like to express our thanks to the staff at Oakview Care Home who cared for Lu in her final months. Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations in Lu's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, or charity of your choice.
