Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD VINCENT BAKER With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Edward, who has left this world on December 16, 2010 at the Selkirk General Hospital, to be with his creator. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Victoria Baker, his daughter Tami and son-in-law Mike Magill, and two granddaughters Tara and Taylor Magill. Ed is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Lil and George Schreyer, sister-in-law Jean Hunter and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his parents Anton and Pauline Baker, his siblings Caroline Tolosko, Marge Tolosko, Elsie Rysen, Katie Kruk, Josie Smyk, Adeline Sutherland, and Clarence Baker and their spouses, and a granddaughter Angel Magill. Ed was born on the Baker Homestead in Cromwell, MB on December 3, 1930. In his early years, he worked on the family farm. In off seasons he worked for various contractors in Beausejour. Ed also worked at the Milner Ridge Radar Base for several years. He met his wife, Victoria, a school teacher in Beausejour who was boarding with his sister Marge. They were married in 1953. While they lived in Beausejour, their daughter Tami was born. In 1964, they moved to an acreage in St. Andrews, MB where they built a new home. Ed worked for Schreyer Equipment for several years. Following this he was employed by the City of Winnipeg, in the Parks and Recreation Department in Kildonan Park. He worked for the City of Winnipeg for 22 years, after which time he retired. Ed was a founding member at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church in Middlechurch and spent much time volunteering at the church. Edward is a senior member with 48 years standing with the Knights of Columbus. He was first a member of the Beausejour Council and then a member of St. Theresa's Council. Ed spent 19 years of retirement in St. Andrew's working on his acreage. He loved working on his manicured yard and especially his garden. He supplied many family and friends with fresh produce he had grown with love and care. Ed was quite a handyman and could fix anything. He was kept busy all year round fixing everyone's broken items. Above all, Ed was a fabulous grandfather. His granddaughters were the pride of his life. He spent many hours gladly playing with his girls. First rocking them to sleep, crawling around on the floor with them, playing games and pranks on them, travelling for visits to watch dance recitals. He was their best playmate. Ed will always be remembered as a compassionate, caring, gentle soul who was generous with his time and talents. We will miss him dearly! Prayers will take place on Monday, December 20, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Memorial Service to be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa's Parish, with interment and reception to follow at Glen Eden Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens. A donation in Ed's name may be made to St. Theresa Parish. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
