ROBERT (BOB) HAROLD ANDREWS It is with deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Bob Andrews at age 86 on Thursday, December 9, 2010, after a brief illness. Bob is survived by his daughter Arlene and son-in-law Pat Shirkey, son Doug Andrews, brother Tom Andrews, niece Pat (Brian) Michalski, nephew Gerald (Jan) Andrews, nephew Neil (Susan) Andrews and by sister-in-law Elsie Don, niece Lyn (Larry) Steingart, niece Sherri (John) Maggs, nephews Raymond Don and Jim Don. Also surviving are great- nieces Sheila and Laura Michalski, Jenn and Lisa Andrews, Amy, Alycia, Keylyn, Martina, Joey and Tony Andrews, Apryl (Trevor) Nadeau, Laura (Marc) Loiselle and Brenden and Carson. Bob will also be sadly missed by his constant faithful dog Cali as well as Pumpkin, Shadow, Charcoal, Purrcilla and Ted. Bob was predeceased by his mother Amy, father Walter, brother-in-law Herb in 1967, sister-in-law Joan in 2001, beloved wife Margaret in 2001, brother-in-law Art in 2001 and sister-in-law Cecily in 2003. Bob was born June 6, 1924 in Morse Place and with the exception of serving three years in the RCAF spent his entire life there. He started work with CP Rail at the age of 17 and retired as a locomotive engineer in 1984 after 43 years of dedicated service. He was a lifelong member of St. Saviour's Anglican Church and also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Bob married Margaret Don in 1948 after meeting her on the Moonlight Special' train to Winnipeg Beach. They had many car trips across Canada, and enjoyed great times at Paddy Lake as well as Muriel Lake in the old cabin. Bob enjoyed family traditions such as Thanksgiving at Clear Lake and getting together to celebrate many birthdays and special family occasions. In the past 10 years he enjoyed his Wednesday Smitty's night with brother Tom where they reminisced about the good old days' while reading the diary, and also spent evenings at the Symphony on Fridays when playing. Bob most enjoyed travelling to Hawaii and had more trips there than he could keep track of! He was planning on heading back to Maui in April 2011. He especially enjoyed the trip to Disneyworld with the little ones in 2008 and travelling to Grand Forks for some good cigars to smoke at Cherry Hill! Bob loved animals more than anything else and although sometimes he was never thrilled with the new addition it didn't take him long to warm up and soon they were always best buddies. He enjoyed his daily walks with Cali and stopped to visit with people along the way. Many thanks to the Paramedics, Dr. Ben Komenda and kind nurses at Concordia Hospital. We would like to thank all our family, friends, and neighbours for all their love, comfort and support and prayers during this very difficult time and the members of St. Saviour's Church and Rev. Simon Blaikie for their visits. I know it meant a lot to Dad. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society Pumpkin fund, in his honour. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Dear Dad You were the best dad ever. We were always close but with the loss of mom you became my pet help, shopping companion and listening ear. We always tried our best but knew there was always an emptiness without mom. You are now reunited once again and it is what brings us comfort. You are loved more than you ever know and will be missed even more. Love Arlene Chapel Lawn 885-9715

  • As a neighbour you were the best and will be missed . Knowing Bob and Marg and family was a very good thing in my life. They all showed me family love and how to love the neighbour. The Andrews lived in this neighbourhood since 1908 and their history on this street will always be remembered. Bob had a very good life. - Posted by: Ron Yarema (neighbours ) on: Oct 07, 2012
