ALEXANDER MCKEAN July 29, 1924 - December 14, 2010 Peacefully, after a long illness, on December 14, 2010, Alexander Kemp McKean passed away at the River Park Gardens Nursing Home. Alex was predeceased by his wife Frances; his mother Winifred Emily (Smith); and his father William Alexander McKean; his brothers, Keith and Ron McKean; his sister Margaret Lowe; his brother-in-law Mick Eyers; and sister-in-law Kay Eyers. Alex is survived by his daughters, Margaret Bloodworth (Glenn) and Elizabeth Anne McKean (Blair Reid); and son John McKean (Nancy Vander Plaats); grandchildren, Catherine Bloodworth, Michelle Bloodworth, Lena Vander Plaats and Marisa Edwards; great-grandchildren, Jaelynn and Ashlyn. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Violet McKean and Audrey McKean; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Betty Jobbins and many nephews, nieces and friends. Alex was born in Winnipeg and educated at Wolsley, Issac Brock and Gorden Bell Schools. Alex served in the R.C.A.F. from 1943 to 1945 as a pilot on convoy patrol. He was posted to Yarmouth, NS where he met his future wife. Alex became a Chartered Accountant in 1947. He began work for the Province of Manitoba in 1949 and in 1953 became the Chief Auditor for the Province. He joined the Manitoba Power Commission as Comptroller in 1955. He became Assistant General Manager of Manitoba Hydro in 1975 and Assistant Vice President of Finance in 1983. Alex was on the Board of Red River Exhibition for over 25 years and a Past President of the Administrative Management Society. He was active with the Canadian Electrical Association and on two condominium boards. He was one of the founding members of St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church. Alex was a member of Elmhurst Golf Course. After retirement, Alex and Fran enjoyed many winters at the Paradise Park in Pharr, Texas. He loved to play cards, especially bridge, and to golf. The family would like to thank Darcy from Gentle Touch and the staff of River Park Gardens and Vista Park Nursing Homes. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home (455 Lagimodiere Blvd.) In lieu of flowers a donation could be made to the St. Boniface Research Foundation or a charity of your choice.
