When I was a little boy in Stony Mountain Manitoba, I lived next-door to the Wasacases. Mr. Wasacase was always particularly kind to me. As a child I longed to go fishing as Mr. Wassacase enjoyed fishing. I was always unsuccessful at getting my father into digging out his old fishing tackle and taking me. Though he did later in life, my first experiences fishing were with Mr. Wasacase. He was always kind to me and he had a great sense of humour. He used to tease me and called me names, but in a playful way. I don’t want to repeat those names for fear those names to follow me (lol), but I take no offence to them at all. I remember one day he was planting trees. One particular tree was a scrawny looking tree so he said we’re going to name this tree after you. I was a little tiny kid so I understood what he meant. Again, it wasn’t in mean spirit at all. He was always kind. That tree outgrew all the other trees which strangely gave me hope. I have nothing but fond memories of my neighbours the Wasacases and George impacted my life in a very positive way. I’m grateful to God for knowing him. - Posted by: Bill Hancock (Former neighbour ) on: Aug 12, 2021
