Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTALBERT DENTON REID It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Talbert Denton Reid following a lengthy illness on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at St. Norbert Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, MB. He was 73 years old. His sons Gordon and Michael; mother Norah; sisters Eliese and Mauvia; brothers Hervin, Hartley, Leebert, Wesley and Hopeton will lovingly remember Talbert. His father Austin predeceases him. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the many friends and family that came regularly to visit him at the nursing home as well as the compassionate care givers at St. Norbert Personal Care Home. He was born in Victoria Town, Jamaica on October 9, 1937. He was the oldest of seven siblings. Talbert came to Winnipeg as an immigrant from Jamaica in 1962. He was the first member of his family to come to North America and paved the way for many other family members to come to Canada. He became a plumber and was a member of Local Union 254 Plumbers and Pipefitters for 45 years. He was a voracious reader and religiously read the ENTIRE Free Press from front to back every day. He enjoyed playing cricket in Assiniboine Park on Saturdays during the summer, gardening and spending time with family and friends. The radio station was always tuned to CJOB where he listened to Peter Warren, Jets and Bomber games. He was an excellent cook and was known for his Jamaican dishes of curried goat and ackee and salt fish. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held on Tuesday, December 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Talbert's memory to The Alzheimer's Society of Canada.
