WILLIAM WALLACE SKINNER At the age of 93, Bill passed away peacefully on December 18, 2010 with his granddaughters at his side. The proud Poppa of a large and loving family, Bill felt blessed with a full life. Left with many cherished memories are his son Gord (Karen); daughters, Jean Labman (Cyril), Marilyn Skinner (Linwood) and Sharon Tod (Keith); grandchildren, Jenn Tumber (Doug), Stephen Russell (Claire), Shauna Labman (Christopher), Raphaelle Labman, Jessica Labman (Mike), Tracey Groening (Rod), Lori Tod (Ryan), Will Tod (Jill), Brett Harding (Mary) and Gigi Harding (Darrell); great-grandchildren, Brayden, Luke, Elliot, Georgia, Taylor, Belinda, Ella, Cody and Whitney, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret in 1996; brothers, Gordon, Athol and Peter; sisters, Florence and Elsie; and great-granddaughter Blake. Bill was born and raised in Winnipeg. He and Margaret were married in 1940 and celebrated 56 wonderful years of marriage. Bill and his brother Peter owned and operated Skinner Brothers Plumbing and Heating for many years on Osborne Street. Happy summers were spent at the family cottages at Brereton and Big Whiteshell Lakes. Days that began with Poppa's porridge were filled with scrabble, cribbage, fishing and water-skiing. Bill was a long-standing member of the Fort Garry Kiwanis Club, remaining active well into his 80s. Many hours were spent at the Wildewood Club, curling and enjoying the companionship of friends. In his later years, Poppa was the family baker, always practising and perfecting Grandma's recipes. He also loved to tell stories. Anyone who happened by for a visit would marvel at his memories while they enjoyed a muffin or a cookie or, more likely, both. Thank you to the Palliative Care Program for all your support. The family is especially grateful for the loving care Bill received from Grace Hospice staff and volunteers during the final months of his life. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bill's life is planned with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7. • My thoughts to Marilyn on the passing of your father. - Posted by: James Rose () on: Jul 29, 2013

  • I always thought of Uncle Bill as my favorite uncle. Uncle Bill married my mother's sister and our families spent a lot of time together while I was growing up in Winnipeg. Some of my favorite times were when Dad and Uncle Bill would take me fishing. Uncle Bill liked to tell stories and my favorite was how he and his brother started their business in 1929 - just as the great depression was starting. But they were able to survive and keep in business because in Winnipeg one thing everyone needs is heating and everyone everywhere always needs plumbing. - Posted by: James MacDonald (Family) on: Dec 21, 2010
