BELLE RYKISS Peacefully on December 10, 2010 in Toronto, Belle Rykiss, just two weeks short of her 97th birthday, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children Norene Gilletz, Rhonda Matias, (Cookie) and Bruce M. Rykiss. Our mother was a successful businesswoman in ladies fashion and bridals for many years, and earned the respect of the community for the wonderful service she provided her customers. Her loving and devoted husband Max predeceased her in 1981 and was an integral part of the business until his passing. She was an incredible cook and homemaker and passed on her culinary expertise to her daughter Norene who spent countless hours sharing information and recipes. She passed on her wonderful business skills to her three children. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jodi Sprackman (Paul), Steven Gilletz (Cheryl Lis), Douglas Gilletz (Ariane Cohen), Debbi-Jo Matias (Kevin Filkow), Marshall Matias (Merav Barr). She was predeceased by her grandson Jeffrey Neal Matias in 1973. Bubbie Belle adored her great-grandchildren Lauren Sprackman, Camille Sprackman, Max Gilletz, Sam Gilletz, Zak Gilletz, Mikaela Matias, Jack Matias, Jesse Filkow and Ari Filkow. Also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ben and Fay Rykiss and predeceased by her brother-in-law Hy and sister-in-law Adele Rykiss Funeral services were held in Winnipeg on December 12, and Shiva was observed in Toronto. Pallbearers were Steven Gilletz, Douglas Gilletz, Marshall Matias, Neil Rykiss, Les Rykiss and Ken Filkow. Honorary Pallbearer was Ben Rykiss Donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes or charity of your choice.
