REVEREND FATHER MICHAEL ALLAN STACK Peacefully on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Misericordia Place Personal Care Home, Father Michael Allan Stack was called home. He was born July 20, 1929 in Montreal, PQ to Edward and Mary Stack. Remaining to forever cherish Father Stack's memory are his brothers, Walter Stack of Kitchener, ON and Terrence (Sylvia) Stack of Shediac, NB, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Edward Stack; sister Kathy Stack; sister Phyllis (Bob) McFarlane; sister Iris and (Herbert) Wilson. Father Stack was educated in Montréal. He taught there for a couple of years prior to entering the seminary. He was ordained for the Archdiocese of Montréal on May 24, 1959 and served in Montreal for five years before entering the Air Force as a chaplain. In his role as a chaplain, Father Stack served in Greenwood, Borden, Edmonton, Comox, Toronto, and eventually came to Winnipeg, where he was the Assistant Command Chaplain responsible for Roman Catholic Chaplaincy on the Pine Tree Radar Stations. He retired from the Military with the rank of Major after 25 years of service and decided to stay in Winnipeg, close to his two Winnipeg families, the Tarrants and the Androvics. Father Stack was always one to come and help. Since his retirement from the military, he immersed himself in the life of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. He was booked for countless weekends filling in and had a regular place in one of the confessionals at St. Vital Parish. He loved to laugh, loved a good joke, loved people and life. Anyone who knew Father Stack loved his presence and understood that he knew that each person had been put into his life as a gift from God. His nature was gentle; his voice filled with compassion and his heart was generous. The twinkle in his eye remained to the very end. He will be welcomed home by the voice of the Good Shepherd that says Well done good and faithful servant... A profound thank you is extended to Residence Despins and the kindness and love of the people at Misericordia Place. Prayers will be held on Monday evening, December 27, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., in St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place. Mass of the Resurrection will be Celebrated on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 10:30 a.m., also in the Church with The Most Reverend V. James Weisgerber, Archbishop of Winnipeg, Presiding. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Archdiocese of Winnipeg's Priestly Vocations Fund, 1495 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, MB R3T 2C6 would be appreciated.

  • He was a fine choral master at the Loyola Chapel when we were undergraduates. He was infinitely kind, a fundamentally meek and humble man capable of the simple yet most necessary charity. - Posted by: Tony Raspa (We were firm friends at Loyola College in Montreal and he married me at Marie Rèine du Monde basili) on: Jan 08, 2013
