PAUL RUTA Peacefully on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, Dad passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 80 years. Dad leaves to mourn his wife Davada; his children, Michael (Karen), Tom (Lisa), Cathy (Feisal) and Terry (Sylvia); Davada's sons, Tristan and Gavin; his sister Rosemary (Bob) Beriault; his brother-in-law Mike (Barb) Wasylkiw; 11 grandchildren: Nicholas, Laura, Paul, Tim, Ian, Omar, Sarah, Hillary, Ann, Alexander and Evan and many other friends and relatives who shared their life with Dad. Dad was predeceased by his wife Ann, his brother Johnny and his parents, Harry and Sadie. Dad was born in 1930, grew up in the Point Douglas area and attended Norquay School and St. John's High School. As a young man, he became an accomplished accordion player. He loved playing the accordion and performed for appreciative audiences throughout his life. In his latter years, Dad and his close friend Gene joined together to bring the gift of music to many functions in Winnipeg. In 1953, Paul and Ann were married and lived happily together for 32 years raising their family in West Kildonan. Dad began working at the CNR and then the Air Traffic Control Centre. He enrolled at the University of Winnipeg part-time in his late 30s and earned his Bachelors of Arts and Education degrees. Dad was employed in the Seven Oaks School Division for most of his career teaching both at the elementary and high school levels. Dad was noted for his quiet strength, wisdom and determination - he was destined to be a teacher and he touched the lives of many students and families. Dad kept a very busy schedule when he retired. Dad was a lifelong learner and he earned a Masters of Education at Cambridge College in Massachusetts. He started BrainGym Learning Skills and over the next 15 years taught BrainGym learning techniques to many families and teachers throughout Canada. During this time he met the second love of his life - Davada and in 2004 they married and resided at the Holy Family Seniors Tower. Dad and Davada met at a dance event and enjoyed many years of happiness travelling, spending quality time with their families and friends, dancing and experiencing life to its fullest during their short time together. Dad was a kind and strong man who touched the lives of many. He loved his family and his wife dearly and he was proud of his children and grandchildren. There was no project that was too big for Dad to help us with - he was always there to assist and provide advice. Dad's strengths included his patience, kindness, sense of fairness, honesty and integrity. By example he taught us that hard work, dedication, respect of others and a positive attitude were key elements to enjoying a full and rewarding life. We love you Dad and we will miss you. The family would like to thank all the nurses, aids and doctors at St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness, respect and care of Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad's memory may be made to the Seven Oaks Education Foundation in the name of the Paul and Ann Ruta Scholarship Award, 830 Powers St., Winnipeg, Manitoba R2V 4E7.
