BARRIE STEPHENSON It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Barrie Stephenson in the early morning of December 22, 2010. He will be lovingly remembered by his eldest daughter Kim Stephenson and husband Rick Hordin; his middle daughter Cindy Stephenson and husband Maurice Déquier along with their children Bréanne, Samuel, Emma, and Thomas; his youngest daughter Hollie and husband Darryl Kehler along with their children Hailey and Braiden; his wife Gail; and his brother Ron Stephenson and wife Diana along with their son Christian and his wife Julie. Dad was predeceased by his mother Marie in 1976 and his father Harry in 1985. Barrie was born on December 1, 1940 and lived most of his life in Winnipeg. Dad graduated from Tec Voc High School and, as a young adult, participated in Air Cadets. He started his professional career with Ward and McDonald as a draftsman. In 1962 he moved to Winnipeg Hydro where he spent the majority of the next 34 years in the position of Public Relations Manager. In 1996 he moved out to the cottage in Whytewold, MB, which was his greatest work of art and always under renovation. He was a gifted artist and enjoyed building things in his woodshop for family and friends. Other activities he enjoyed were meeting up with friends at the Winnipeg Beach Pub weekly meat draws, driving into Winnipeg to participate in his 10 pin bowling league, and joining his Hydro buddies for their monthly lunches. He became an avid computer user and was thankful for Frank's help with this new toy. Sparky, Dad's dog, kept him company wherever he went. Over the last 10 years, Dad had struggled with cancer but still maintained an independent lifestyle. However, after having lung cancer surgery in March, he was unable to continue living on his own. Hollie and Darryl brought him into their home and provided a safe and secure environment, complete with a home for Sparky and Dad's big screen TV! He entered the hospital in August for what we hoped would be a short stay but that was not meant to be. He continued to fight courageously with constant support from his family and friends. A special thanks goes out to the staff at Health Sciences Centre for their care and concern. Following Dad's expressed wishes, there will be no formal service. We think that he would be happy for you to remember him by taking some time to have a beer in his memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division. We miss you Dad
