Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOYCE ELIZABETH BOSS On December 22, 2010 Joyce Elizabeth Boss passed away peacefully at the Concordia Hospital. Joyce, the youngest of 14 children, was born December 19, 1926 at home in Highland Glen. She was a wonderful mother and will be lovingly remembered by her five children and their families: Barbara (Wayne) Bilenky and grandchildren Kim (Kevin) Gonsalves, Kristen and Kurtis; Betty (Alvin) Kreviazuk and grandchildren Christopher, Joshua and Benjamin; Donald (Cindy) Boss and grandchildren Stacey and Taylor; Beverly Boss-Dolphin and grandchildren Kevin, Nicholas and Alexander; Andrew (Mary) Boss and grandchild Annie. She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Steve; parents Bartholomew and Eva; brothers Albert, Mike, Stanley and Walter; sisters Victoria and Stella, and four brothers in infancy. She is survived by sisters Emily of Toronto, Mary of East St. Paul and brother John of Edmonton. Mom grew up in Highland Glen where she excelled in her schooling. As the youngest child she was often called upon to help her brothers and sisters with their families. She moved to Winnipeg at the young age of 16 to find employment. During this period Mom lived in a nun's residence where she made lifelong friends with many of the young women living there. Mom first met Dad on a blind date through a mutual friend. They were later married on November 18, 1950. Mom and Dad moved to Rossdale, bought the family farm and began their married life together, where they raised their five children. While the family was growing up she tended to the farm and more often than not our meals were entirely homegrown in which she took great pride. We have many fond memories of sitting around the dinner table telling stories, laughing and sharing dreams. Many of these times were frequently shared with neighbours, friends and family. Mom's greatest joy in life was her family, which she loved unconditionally, providing us with an unwavering source of strength and support. Mom had a warm and generous spirit and a value for hard work which she instilled upon her children. After Dad's passing in 1985, Mom lived another 12 years on the farm in Rossdale. She was an avid reader (especially political biographies) and always did the daily crossword puzzle to keep her mind sharp. Throughout her life she enjoyed attending church and was very involved with the community. Mom's reputation for hard work, generosity and willingness to always lend a hand was well-earned. In 1997 Mom moved into Winnipeg where she volunteered much of her time at the Kildonan Personal Care Home and at the Holy Redeemer Food Bank. She was honoured with an award commemorating her volunteer work. Mom had a strong and quiet faith and trusted in Jesus Christ as her Saviour. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Holy Redeemer Church, located at 264 Donwood Drive in Winnipeg. Viewing will take place at 10:00 a.m. with the church service following at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. There will be a private family burial at Rossdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the the Selkirk and District General Hospital, 100 Easton Drive, Selkirk, Manitoba. In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. John 14:2 Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
